Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is something a new mother must decide on before their new baby is born. It is something that not all women are comfortable doing but some women find it more natural than formula. Breast feeding is a personal decision but one that should not be taken lightly, as there are many factors to consider. Many women who choose to breastfeed their new baby find that when the time comes their baby does not take to it or they cannot provide for their babies as they had hoped. These are just a few of the breastfeeding problems that can occur, that cannot be predicted.

When a new mother chooses to breast feed it is important they study up on how to breastfeed by watching a breast feeding video, looking at breastfeeding photography and/or breastfeeding pictures. Looking through a breastfeeding gallery is a great idea and they have many real breastfeeding photos to give you an idea of how it will be with you and your new baby. Although pictures do not show you the process, that is what the video is for and when you are at the hospital there are specific nurses there to help you get started.

You need to also think about the breastfeeding supplies that you will need and decide what your feelings are when it comes to breastfeeding in public. Breast feeding in public is something that is becoming more and more common and there are many special blankets you can purchase to make sure you are covered during these moments. It is important to realize that you will need to schedule your day around your baby’s eating times because when they are hungry you will start to leak and if it happens in public you will have to be prepared.

Extended breastfeeding is something that may or may not be for you. Extended means that after their first year you are still choosing to breast feed them instead of moving them on to solid foods. This is another personal choice but it has its pros and cons. There are many positive aspects of nursing a toddler such as it provides them more nutrients, they are said to have fewer allergies and are sick less often. Of course many new mothers are not comfortable with extended breast feeding on their children do just fine moving to the next level of eating. This is something that you may want to discuss with your family doctor to get all the information before making your final decision.

Breastfeeding is something that some mothers want to do and some mothers don’t. Be careful in your decision making and make sure you have all the facts.
