Portable Cribs

The US Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) together with the National SAFE KIDS campaign has announced safety initiatives regarding portable cribs used in various hotels and motels. In the previous years, there have been reviews of portable cribs detachable parts to have caused a few minor accidents among infants. In one of the reports, a mother of a six month old baby boy narrated about how her baby almost fell through a slat opening. In addition, this was also an entrapment risk to her child because the crib slats can actually be detached from the headboard of the crib itself. Although most manufacturers of portable baby cribs approve of recall portable cribs through their return policies, the US safety Commission has still imposed specific regulations about portable baby cribs. This has been true for delta fold-a-way portable crib and gerry portable crib, because a significant 80% of each portable crib that is used by over 90 hotels were identified, tested, and were deemed unsafe.

The use of a steel folding portable baby crib was advised as a replacement to the old model. This steel crib would be made of heavy-duty 1” x 18” gauge steel tube with pearl white electronic provider coat finish. It also had california grade poly foam and thick portable crib mattresses with slats that are are 2 3/8 inches apart or less. These new guidelines were nice and did solve the problems already mentioned.

In spite of these reports and the product recalls about portable cribs, foundations portable cribs are one of the many brands that go with the evolution in safety enhancements. All models feature an easy fold design and they can be set up only in a few seconds. A compact folded design allows an easy storage therefore providing a hassle-free storage for the portable crib bedding and the portable crib mattress that come with the original purchase.

Potable cribs are tagged to be portable for the purpose of convenience as the baby travels along with the parents. It is not good news to receive complaints about product manufacturing. Safety must start with you prior to purchasing a portable crib. Go with the brand that you feel will provide you with convenience and the needs you are after. If you feel it is necessary to check a unit while still in the store, and if you feel you need to shake it, then do it. Remember that it is your right as a parent to always protect and ensure the safety of your child.
